Emergency First Aid At Work
1 day course
Emergency First Aid at Work is a new 1-day course which was introduced by the HSE in October 2009. This course can only be offered by HSE approved training organisations, which serves to reassure you that the standard of training is adequate. At SOS-Safety Training, we pride ourselves on the very high standard of our instructors.

The course content is dictated by the HSE. Our courses exceed this minimum and include:
- The role of the first aider
- Handling an emergency safely
- Basic life support including cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Dealing with wounds or bleeding
- Dealing with seizures and choking
- Provision of appropriate first aid for minor injuries
- Introductory training with the automated defibrillator (AED)
All our first aid courses are taught by experienced, top class instructors from Fire Service and Ambulance Service backgrounds. We use realistic casualty simulation and scenarios drawn from real-life, making the experience memorable and fun.
The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification lasts for 3 years.
First Aid At Work
3 day course
Since October 2009, the HSE has directed that all First Aid at Work courses must be 3 days long. A new one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course has been introduced to cater for organisations with a lower risk environment.

Only HSE approved training organisations are permitted to run either of these courses, which serves to reassure you that the standard of training is adequate. At SOS-Safety Training, we pride ourselves on the very high standard of our instructors.
The course content is dictated by the HSE. Our courses exceed this minimum and include:
- Legal requirements and roles of the first aider
- Basic life support, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Treatment of wounds and bleeding
- Dealing with common emergencies, such as heart attack and seizures
- Treating sprains, strains and fractures
- Recognition and treatment of airway problems, including asthma, choking and anaphylaxis
- Introductory training with the automated defibrillator (AED)
All our first aid courses are taught by experienced, top class instructors from a Fire Service or Ambulance Service backgrounds. We use realistic casualty simulation and scenarios drawn from real-life, making the experience memorable and fun. A comprehensive handbook is given to all candidates.
The First Aid at Work qualification lasts for 3 years, after which time a 2-day refresher course is required to remain in date. The HSE also recommends that first aiders undergo an annual 1-day course to maintain their skill level.
Paediatric First Aid
2 day course
The National Standards for Under 8s Day care and Childminding require that all childminders hold a current first aid qualification. SOS-Safety Training provides training which meets this requirement, addressing a syllabus which has been developed in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Sure Start guidelines.
Subjects covered include:
- Dealing with emergencies
- Resuscitating babies and children
- Dealing with airway problems such as choking, anaphylaxis and asthma
- Treating wounds and bleeding
- Objects in the eyes, ears or nose
- Bites and stings
- Febrile convulsions
- Medical conditions such as meningitis, epilepsy, sickle cell anaemia and diabetes

We also provide monthly updates for all our students to help keep the first aid training fresh in their minds. A comprehensive handbook is provided.
